Spell Trouble
Chapter 1

“Wake up Megan!” shouted her 10-year old sister Caitlyn.
“Coming!” screamed Megan.
It had been 2 weeks since the first day of school. She had been starting 8th grade at Wizard School. Her class was 8b. She had made a lot of new friends and she was already sure this was going to be one of the best years of her life. Megan rushed down the stairs and ate her breakfast cereal.
“You better hurry up because the magic carpet is going to be here in a few minutes,” said Megan’s mom. “You should too Caitlyn.” In a few minutes Megan and Caitlyn were already out the door and waiting for their ride. SWOOSH!! Went the carpet, it landed at their doorstep with a Thud! Megan climbed on her light blue magic carpet. It was embroidered with lines of gold and sliver thread and it had the letters WS. Caitlyn climbed onto her magic carpet. It was red with lines of blue and purple.
“Bling Fling magic carpet,” was all they needed to say to make their magic carpet go, and up, up, up and away they went. Megan’s carpet swooshed from right to left high up in the sky. She could see cars rushing down the highway, people opening their shops, and much more. Megan lived in a small town named “Magi vile.” This was a town where everyone knew one another and everyone knew what was new and hot! Megan soon arrived at a tall building, shaped like a cone. The building was blue with star-shaped windows.
“Hey Megan, Over here!” cried her best friend Hilary, she pointed to a seat beside her. Class had not yet started and the class was buzzing with excitement. Today, they were going to start having lessons on how to make potions and a new teacher was coming. “Aren’t you excited today?”
“You bet I am!” Megan replied.
“EVERYONE QUIET!” shouted a voice. The room went silent.
“Who could that be?” everyone was wondering. Megan looked around the room. She didn’t see anyone weird or anything odd. The room was silent for 5 more minutes. When the silence was over people went back to their conversations.
“I AM DISSAPOINTED IN YOU!” said the voice again. Who is that? Who, Who, WHO?? “I thought that you young wizards in training had more brains than that. Why couldn’t you get and make a visible spell you lazy bunch of wizards!” A figure suddenly appeared out of nowhere. The figure was skinny but short and it was hidden in the shadows. It suddenly stepped out from the shadows, it was and old lady with gray hair. “Hello my name is Miss Mogami and I will be your potion teacher this year.”
“What this is our teacher?” thought Megan, suddenly she wasn’t looking forward to potion making class.
“Alright let’s get started!” Miss Mogami clapped her hands. “Today I will teach some of the most important ingredients used in most of the potions but first, rules!” “Rule number one, always were gloves when making potions, because some of the chemicals are fatal for you. Rule number 2, always have a partner to help you since you are only beginners.” And so on…
BRINGGG! school was finally over.
“I thought school would never end.” sighed Hilary.
“Me too, Miss Mogami is going to ruin our school year I’m sure of it.” said Jake, another one of Megan’s best friend.
“ Are you going to stay and watch magball today?” asked Hilary. Magball was a sport that was very popular at school. The idea of the game was to try and catch the magic ball and throw it in the other team's pot while riding their magic carpet.
“Sorry I can't, I have to go and babysit Caitlyn today.” replied Megan.
“Oh alright, well see you tomorrow,” waved Hilary and walked away. Now it was only her and Jake left in the hallway, everyone else had gone to
watch the game.
“ What about you Jake, are you going to watch the game?” asked Megan.
“ NAAA! I gotta head back home and feed Bucky.” he replied. Bucky was Jake's pet turtle. He was green and super fast at moving unusual for a turtle.
“Oh okay, wanna go home together?”
“ Sure! Let's go! Race you to the carpets!” shouted Jake and ran off.
“ Just a second young man!' said the voice. Jake halted. “ You know the rules, no running in the hallway.” The enormous figure was towering over Jake. Now usually, Jake's a guy who doesn't get that scared easily but this was a different situation. This man was the only pe rson that all the students feared the most. His name was Mr. Bruno. Mr. Bruno was in charge of all the rules and making sure people followed them. “ I will be seeing you in detention Mr. Jake.” Mr. Bruno wrote on a pink slip of paper which meant that you had detention with him. Now detention is not so bad when you're alone, but when you're alone with Mr. Bruno it's a living nightmare. Mr. Bruno had a schedule for each student that had detention with him so that you wouldn't be with anyone. How scary is that?
SLAM! Megan shut the door. “Hey Megan, you're late!” cried Caitlyn. “I've been waiting for 10 minutes. Mom's not going to be happy if she finds out you've been leaving me home alone for 10 minutes. Anyways, how was your first potion making class.”
“ You do not wanna know. We have this freaky new teacher and her name is Miss Mogami.” said Megan.
“ She sounds nice.”
“ Well guess what, she's not.”
“ What time are mom and dad coming home today?” Megan asked.
“ Around nine o'clock so she told us to go ahead and eat dinner.”
Megan opened the fridge, inside she found two frozen lasagnas and heated them up. Megan's parents were businessmen so they came home late very often and she was put in charge of watching Caitlyn.
Ding! went the timer of the oven, lasagna was ready. “ Caitlyn, dinner is ready!” Megan and Caitlyn talked about school and did their homework soon the night was over.

The next morning, “Attention class! I have an important announcement.” Miss Lindsey clapped her hands. Miss Lindsey was their homeroom teacher. She was the best teacher in the whole school or so Megan thought so. She was kind, nice and never raised her voice. “This year we are going to have a spell competition. Where the top spell casters in each class will compete against each other.” The class whispered with excitement. “The competitors will be announced tomorrow so have a good day!”
“ Can you believe it?” asked Hilary while they walked down the hallway,
“A spell competition where one person from each class competes against one another. I bet the person from our class will be you, Megan.”
“ Me?” said Megan. “ DUH! Who else? I mean like come on, you're the smartest one in our class, the top wizard.” said Jake. “ You always ace the tests and missions we get sent on.”
“ But Ashley is also one of the top wizards, it could be her.” argued Megan.
Just then Ashley walked up to them. “ You know Megan, I just want to wish you good luck because the wizard who is going to get picked to enter the competition will be me!” Ashley Hayes was one of the famous wizards in town just because her parents were once famous, but to Megan and her friends, Ashley was just a snobby girl in school.
“ I wouldn't push your luck girl, because you know Megan is much smarter than you.” said Hilary.
“ Whatever,” and Ashley walked away.
“ Just wait till tomorrow, you'll show her,” said Jake.
“ You guys, we don't even know if I'm going to make it.” said Megan.
“ Oh don't worry you'll make it.” assured Jake.
As Megan was flying home she kept thinking about the competition. “Would she really be chosen to compete?” She soon came home, today her parents were home. “I'm home!”
“Hi there, how's school? Anything new? Go wash your hands and get ready for dinner, then we'll talk.” greeted Megan's mom.
“ Where's dad?” asked Megan.
“ Upstairs, he'll be here soon.”
“Okay,” and Morgan went to her room.
A few minutes, the whole family was gathered around the table eating dinner. “ So, how's school kids?” asked their dad.
“ Well today at school, my friend Shanté tripped on her face and got a big bruise on her forehead during P.E class.” said Caitlyn.
“Okay ... how about you Megan?”asked her dad.
“Well today our teacher said that we are going to have a spell competition and one person from each class will compete. She's going to tell us who tomorrow.”
“ Sounds exciting.” commented her mother.
“ Yes it does, and I bet you our girl is going to be a competitor.” agreed her father.
“ Don't be so sure yet.” disagreed Megan.
The next morning the class was once again buzzing with excitement. CLAP! CLAP! CLAP! Miss Lindsey clapped her hands. “ Okay class, the competitors will be announced at the end of the day when you guys are back here.”
“ AWWWW!” whined the whole class.
“ Now, now, I know you are all excited but you must learn to be patient,”said Miss Lindsey.
Classes went slowly for Megan and her classmates. It felt like time was standing still. They couldn't even concentrate on one of their favorite subject, spiritual dancing. Finally, it was time for Miss Lindsey's class. As soon as Megan's classmates entered her room they were dead silence, anticipation was killing them. “Alright class, I will start announcing the competitors. Starting with grade 6. In 6a Natalie will be competing. In 6b, Henry, 7a will be Bill, 7b is Madison, 8a is Nicki and in our class there will be two people competing because their marks are exactly the same so we will have Ashley and Megan competing for us!
“ What!” said Megan and Ashley in unison.
“ Miss this is totally unfair, I should be the only to compete.” complained Ashley.
“ It doesn't matter Megan is going to compete no matter what, now please sit down Ashley, I don't want to argue.” said Miss Lindsey calmly.
“ Wow, I wish I were like Miss Lindsey, if I were I would have exploded right back at Ashley,” thought Megan. Miss. Lindsey continued to read the competitors.
RING! Went the bell. “ Can you believe it? Megan made it!” said Hilary enthusiastically.
“ Yeah! It's totally cool except for the part that Ashely is also one of the competitors.” replied Jake.
“ Hey guys, it's alright as long as I don't have to work with her, I'll just pretend I can't even see her.” said Megan.
Hilary grinned, “ I know you will, you are going to beat her and I know it!”
“ Are you with me?” asked Megan.
The three joined hands, “YEAH!”
Mary rushed home she couldn't wait to tell her parents, they were going to be at home again today but when she got home, all she saw was Caitlyn crying on the floor with a scar that stretched across her face and the room all messed up ...
